The number of Global Capability Centres (GCCs) in India has doubled in the last 20 years growing from 700 to 1600 – one crucial aspect of this growth remains acquiring and retaining top tech talent. To know how staffing firms are navigating this growth, ET Insights talks to Kumar Rajagopalan, Vice President, Strategic Initiatives and Country Head- India, Dexian India, who highlights the crucial role they play.
Talking about the software industry, Rajagopalan explained how the abundant supply of engineers from numerous colleges and supportive government policies facilitated the industry’s growth. This progression evolved from outsourcing to IT-enabled services and product engineering. But despite significant strides, he rued how India has still not fully realised its potential, with room to expand achievements five to six times. He emphasised that India’s success stems firstly from its strong family setup, which emphasises education and fosters a competitive spirit among children. Second, community support helps individuals find jobs and settle in new places, and lastly, the culture of teamwork makes Indian teams exceptionally successful in delivering outsourced projects.
Talking about how Dexian is performing, Rajagopalan spoke about how the firm leverages its US-based parent company’s 32-year experience, focussing on staffing, services, and customer solutions. By aligning organisational culture, technology, and talent scouting, the company is replicating successful models for Fortune 500 companies in India, aiming to grow significantly in the market with newer technologies.
To adapt to the constantly evolving tech landscape and fill the talent gap, Dexian focuses on upskilling and reskilling its workforce by signing up with universities to keep their staff engaged. Dexian emphasises a strong organisational culture that aligns with global standards, while maintaining empathy and transparency with employees. This approach helps them attract, train, and retain talent effectively.
Rajagopalan further explained how Dexian, with 1500 employees, prioritises the human element in staffing by treating employees as individuals with emotions and intelligence, rather than just resources. With 33 percent of female workforce, they ensure safety and security through rigorous training. The HR team focuses on empathy and understanding, maintaining transparency and communication during all phases, including project completions and transitions. He concluded with a parting note on having ethical policies for emerging technologies.
